青金石Wedjat護符,古埃及晚期,約公元前664–332年,狀況良好;原創/正式,來自私人收藏,於2000年取得。
賣家描述
一件精美的古埃及青金石睚视(wedjat)护符。 Taking the typical form of the Eye of Horus, this example is relatively unadorned, with the only carved details being the notched ridge above the eyebrow of the amulet. It is possible that that part was meant to be pierced and act as a suspension loop. The lapis lazuli stone displays natural beige inclusions, and the reverse of the amulet is almost entirely beige. The amulet is not perforated via the ridged suspension lug, but a narrow perforation exists horizontally through the middle of the body, possibly a later addition. Minor earthy encrustations and signs of wear as consistent with age, including some scratching to the surface of the amulet, pitting on the reverse, and wear along the edges.
The wedjat, as the Eye of Horus, is one of the most popular amulets of ancient Egypt. The amulet combines elements of both human and falcon ocular imagery, as Horus was often depicted as a falcon. Its name comes from the ancient Egyptian ‘wḏꜣt’, meaning “the one that is complete”. The wedjat was highly apotropaic and associated with a number of Egyptian myths. The eye depicted could be either left or right, representing different solar and lunar imagery. Wedjat eye amulets were commonly placed within mummy wrappings to help the dead to help them pass safely into the afterlife.
Measurements (approx.): H 0.4cm x W 1.9cm x L 2.3cm
Provenance: Early 20th Century UK Collection.
