This large zoomorphic sculpture in beige crackle-glazed earthenware depicts a couple of pheasants perched on a rocky mound , a characteristic creation of animalier art from the Art Deco period produced between 1925 and 1930 . This piece is attributed to the famous sculptor and ceramicist Louis Fontinelle , a major figure of the interwar era renowned for his stylized animal figures featuring sleek and geometric lines . Both birds stand out through their fluid profiles and elongated tails , perfectly matching the modernist dynamics typical of the artist's creations . The entire piece receives a beautiful glossy monochrome cream-white glaze , highlighting a network of regular fine crazing characteristic of the aging of earthenware . The object bears no handwritten or printed signature visible on the external surface , but the hollow reverse of its base features the factory reference or model number 147 incised directly into the body during molding . The dimensions of this large-scale artwork are 30 cm in height , 53 cm in total length and 15 cm in width at the base . The individual weight of the sculpture amounts to 2900 g . Regarding its condition , this animalier ceramic is in very good original general condition , the surface maintaining a remarkable shine with no transversal cracks , chips or restorations to report on the structure of the birds or the base .
