INNA PUPINA — VIOLET NORTHERN LIGHT，2020
39 1/5 × 27 3/5 × 4/5 in | 99.5 × 70 × 2 cm
Original acrylic painting on 100% cotton museum-quality canvas — Unique work 1/1
Violet Northern Light captures the quiet poetry of the Northern landscape through an immersive dialogue between violet forests, luminous blue water and reflected light.
Rather than reproducing a specific place, Latvian artist Inna Pupina transforms the landscape into an emotional experience. The eye is naturally drawn along the water toward the distant light, while violet, blue, green and subtle warmer accents create depth throughout the composition.
Painted entirely by hand in acrylic, the work combines expressive brushwork with carefully constructed colour harmonies. Reflections dissolve into the water, vegetation becomes increasingly atmospheric toward the distance, and the changing density of the brushstrokes gives the painting a strong sensation of movement and space.
Viewed from afar, the composition creates an immediate feeling of serenity. At closer range, individual gestures, layers of colour and subtle variations of light become visible.
The result is an original contemporary landscape that balances nature, colour, atmosphere and contemplation.
THE ARTIST
Inna Pupina is a Latvian contemporary painter based in Riga whose practice centres on the emotional dimension of landscape.
Working in acrylic on canvas, she explores forests, water, sky and natural light through expressive layering and distinctive colour harmonies. Her paintings move beyond literal representation, using landscape as a means of expressing atmosphere, stillness and emotion.
Her artistic language is particularly recognisable through the interaction of violet, blue and green tonalities, creating compositions that combine the familiarity of nature with a more personal and contemporary interpretation.
