Ryoun Mountain Landscape Japanese Hanging Scroll

English Description — approx. 200 words

An atmospheric Japanese hand-painted hanging scroll (Kakejiku) by an artist signing as Ryoun (龍雲), depicting a tranquil mountain landscape with pine trees, a flowing stream, rocky peaks, distant mountains, and birds in flight.

Executed by hand on silk (Kenpon), the composition presents a classical Japanese landscape in which rugged mountains rise above a peaceful valley. Pine trees frame the scenery, while the winding stream guides the viewer through the landscape toward misty peaks in the distance. Small birds flying across the open sky add movement and a sense of scale to the expansive scene.

The pine tree (Matsu) is a traditional symbol of longevity, endurance, and steadfastness, while flowing water and distant mountains evoke tranquility and the enduring beauty of nature.

The work bears the artist’s signature/inscription “Ryoun” (龍雲) and is presented in a traditional Japanese mounting with wooden roller ends.

This scroll would appeal to collectors of Japanese painting, Nihonga, Sansui landscapes, traditional works on silk, and antique hanging scrolls, and would display beautifully in a tokonoma, study, or gallery.
