Bardos Moradillo de Roa 2020 originates from small plots of old vines, between 80 and 90 years old, located in Moradillo de Roa (Burgos), an area with a long winemaking tradition—its historic winery district, El Cotarro, dates back to the 15th century. This wine is born in one of the most unique locations in the Ribera del Duero region: at 960 meters above sea level, in soils of pebbles with a clay base, the vines survive extreme conditions that impart freshness, concentration, and a unique personality to the grapes.

Bardos Moradillo de Roa is made primarily with Tempranillo grapes, complemented by Garnacha, Albillo Mayor, Bobal, Monastrell, and Graciano. The viticulture is artisanal, with hand-harvesting and a deep respect for the environment, always seeking to reflect the essence of the terroir.

As for its production, fermentation takes place in a 9,000 kg vat for three weeks at 28°C, followed by malolactic fermentation in a 5,000-liter European oak vat. The resulting wine then ages for 12 months in the same vat, which imparts structure, complexity, and a perfect integration of fruit and oak.

With a deep color, Bardos Moradillo de Roa displays tones of deep cherry red with subtle dark nuances at the rim, developed during aging. It exhibits great clarity and brilliance in the glass. Intensely aromatic, it elegantly combines notes of ripe fruit with oak nuances, highlighting hints of cocoa and dark chocolate. More complex notes of orange peel and certain aromatic herbs are also present, along with a background of ripe plum. It displays the characteristic structure of Tempranillo, although its entry is sweet and approachable. The power of the grape is enhanced by the interaction with the oak, creating a sense of spaciousness that carries over throughout the palate. This reflects the ripeness imparted by the pebbles of the high plateau, combined with the accumulated sun, generating a special warmth in the grape and a pleasantly tactile experience.
