Kamakura-bori Lacquerware

Kamakura-bori is a traditional Japanese craft that originated in the Kamakura period (13th century).
Skilled artisans hand-carve patterns into the wooden base and apply multiple layers of natural lacquer.
This meticulous process creates a deep relief texture and a warm, glossy finish.

Typical motifs include flowers, birds, and geometric designs, combining both practicality and artistic beauty.

This piece beautifully showcases the strong carving and elegant gloss characteristic of authentic Kamakura-bori.
It can be appreciated both as a functional utensil and as a decorative work of Japanese art.
