Item Description :

This captivating oil painting titled "Myōkō Kōgen" (Myōkō Plateau) was created in 1972 by renowned Japanese artist Yukio Ukai (鵜飼幸雄). Rendered in a richly impastoed technique, the painting portrays a tranquil autumnal scene from Myōkō in Niigata Prefecture, a region known for its stunning mountain landscapes. The composition features tall trees in warm fall hues standing against a backdrop of a majestic blue-toned mountain, with a lightly snow-covered forest path winding through the middle. The expressive brushwork and thick texture bring the landscape to life, immersing the viewer in the atmospheric quiet of a highland in early winter. Signed by the artist in the lower left and bearing the original exhibition label (共シール), this is an authenticated original work by Ukai, a significant figure in post-war Japanese Western-style painting.
