賣家描述
Illustrated registered cover from the historic 1929 Stockholm–New York transatlantic trial flight attempt by pilot Albin Ahrenberg and co-pilot Axel Flodén aboard the Junkers W 33 seaplane “Sverige”.
The front features a photograph of the two aviators with their original handwritten signatures beneath, together with the inscriptions “Svenska Atlantflygningen” and “First Trial Flight Stockholm–New York 1929”.
Striking high-value franking comprising a block of four King Gustaf V 5 kronor stamps, supplemented by 20 öre and 25 öre stamps: a total of 20 kronor 45 öre.
Postal markings include:
Stockholm cancellation dated 7 June 1929.
Registration label “Stockholm 1 P.F.F.S. Nr 9158”.
Special blue “Stockholm–New York 1929 Luftpost” cachets on the front and reverse.
New York Registry Division arrival markings dated 11 September 1929.
The experimental flight sought to establish a transatlantic route via Iceland and Greenland.
Technical difficulties and adverse weather prevented completion of the crossing, and the mail was subsequently forwarded from Greenland to New York by sea.
A scarce and historically significant example of pioneer transatlantic aerophilately, combining an illustrated trial-flight envelope, the signatures of both pilots and an impressive 5 kronor block of four
An appealing and historically important item for collectors of early transatlantic aviation, Swedish airmail, registered postal history and pioneer flight covers.
I don't combine shippings
