Æ (Bronze, 17.7 mm, 3.16 g).
Obv: Laureate head of Apollo left.
Rev: ΛEO. Swan standing left with wings spread, head to right.
Reference: SNG Copenhagen 801.
Leukai stood near the mouth of the Hermos River on the Gulf of Smyrna. Founded by the Persian commander Tachos in the early fourth century BC, it became the subject of a dispute between Kyme and Klazomenai after his death. Klazomenai secured possession, drawing the settlement into its sphere of influence. Its coastal position and harbours linked this small community to the maritime world of Ionia.
