Rare Thonet Wien | Bentwood Rocking Armchair — Model 7481d (1900)

An exceptionally rare Thonet Wien bentwood rocking armchair, Model 7481d, produced in 1900 in the refined, flowing aesthetic of the Vienna Secession.
The piece is part of a family collection.
It retains its original THONET paper mark, confirming provenance and early Vienna manufacture.

Materials:
Tinted beechwood bentwood frame. Seat, backrest, and side panels upholstered in burgundy leather‑like oilcloth with detailed tack trim. Seat underside constructed in iron, providing strength and stability characteristic of early Thonet craftsmanship.

Condition:
Unrestored and entirely original. The burgundy oilcloth upholstery and tack trim display natural, age‑appropriate wear consistent with the armchair’s antiquity. The principal damage is confined to the front section of the seat, where the oilcloth is torn and the underlying fibres (filling) are exposed, as shown in the relevant photograph. The wooden frame remains structurally sound, retaining its characteristic curves and the balanced rocking motion associated with this model.

Dimensions:
59 × 82 × 87 cm (L × H × D)

Part of a Rare Five‑Piece Thonet Ensemble:
This rocking armchair may be acquired individually or as part of a cohesive and exceptionally rare collection of early Thonet bentwood furniture, all sharing identical stamps, upholstery, and the fluid lines of the Vienna Secession style:
1x Thonet Model 6281 Canapé — two‑seat, produced in 1900
3x Thonet Model 6081 tripod armchairs — set of three, first edition (1910)

Together, these five pieces form a unified, historically significant ensemble, seldom available on the collectors’ market.
