Vintage "Trench Art" Lighter (1945) – Crafted from 1-Penny Coins (King George VI) – FULLY FUNCTIONAL
For sale: an authentic piece of military history and a collector's gem—a "Trench Art" lighter, handcrafted at the end of World War II (1945).
This unique object incorporates two original solid-bronze British 1-penny coins, soldered with remarkable precision onto a brass body.
Historical and numismatic details:
Obverse: The profile of King George VI of Great Britain, accompanied by his full royal title in Latin, including the "IND: IMP" (Emperor of India) monogram—a rare historical detail permanently removed from coinage in 1949.
Reverse: The symbolic seated figure of Britannia holding a trident, with the minting year—1945—clearly visible.
Technical and aesthetic condition:
Fully functional (tested): Produces a lively, strong, and steady flame. The ignition mechanism (serrated wheel and flint housing) operates flawlessly.
Complete set: The lighter comes with its original knurled (textured) brass cap, which protects the wick and prevents fuel evaporation. Original patina: The brass and bronze have not undergone aggressive chemical polishing, retaining the warm, authentic patina acquired over more than 80 years of history. Shows minor, natural wear that enhances its character.
Fueling: Operates on standard lighter fluid (Zippo type). Access to the cotton reservoir and the flint spring is provided via two dedicated screws at the base.
