Model History:

The Seikomatic collection represented an important part of Seiko’s higher-quality automatic watch production during the early 1960s. The Slimdate models combined a comparatively thin profile with a practical date display and refined dress-watch styling.

Produced in January 1964, this example is powered by the Suwa Seikosha calibre 840. The 30-jewel automatic movement operates at 18,000 vibrations per hour and was developed specifically for Seiko’s slim, date-equipped watches. Its decorative rotor and elaborate construction reflect the quality of Seiko’s better mechanical movements of the period.

Condition:

The watch is presented in attractive vintage condition. Its silver sunburst dial retains a pleasing radial finish that changes subtly with the lighting. The applied baton hour markers, framed date aperture and finely fluted chapter ring create a refined and distinctly early-1960s appearance.

The dial shows some age-related spotting, small marks and light discolouration, most visibly around the outer edge and across parts of the lower half. These signs of ageing are consistent with the watch’s age and do not significantly detract from its overall appearance. The printed inscriptions remain clear and legible, while the hands and applied markers display light surface ageing and wear.

The finely fluted chapter ring remains well defined and adds considerable visual depth around the edge of the dial. A new, clear and scratch-free acrylic crystal has been fitted.

The stainless-steel case displays scratches, small marks and normal signs of previous use. The characteristic angular lugs and slim case profile remain attractive and clearly recognisable.

The stainless-steel case back shows scratches and general age-related wear. The Seikomatic Slimdate engraving, reference number and other markings remain legible.

The watch is fitted with a new black leather strap. The 30-jewel calibre 840 automatic movement has been fully serviced, and all functions are operating correctly. A 3-month guarantee is provided on functionality.
