Beautiful antique silver Art Nouveau brooch by the French designer Jean-Baptiste Emile Dropsy (1848-1923).

Emile Dropsy was a prominent French Art Nouveau designer and engraver who closely collaborated with Maison Savard at the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century.

He was a specialized designer hired by Auguste Savard to create aesthetic designs for religious medals, pendants and jewelry.

Auguste Savard took over the company in 1893 from his father and attracted top designers, including Tairac, Emile Dropsy and Becker.

The design is known under the name "La Dame aux Iris" (The Woman with the Irises).

It shows the profile of a young woman with her hair up in the typical Gibson Girl style, surrounded by stylized irises.

This reflects the flowing, organic forms characteristic of the Art Nouveau movement around 1900.

Equipped with the silver hallmark “Tete de Sanglier” and master mark “Maison Savard”.
Signed “E. Dropsy”.
