Beautiful, original hand-colored map of Greece.
A finely detailed 17th-century copperplate map titled “Graecia”, based on the work of Gerard Mercator (1512–1594) and later updated and published in Amsterdam by Henricus Hondius for the Mercator-Hondius atlas.
The map provides a broad view of Greece, covering the mainland, the Peloponnese, the Ionian Islands, and the Cyclades and Sporades in the Aegean Sea. Its coverage extends northwards to parts of Macedonia and Albania, and eastwards to the Dardanelles.
Delicate engraved wave patterns decorate the Ionian and Aegean seas, adding texture to the waters and enhancing the map’s visual appeal.
Dimensions: 36 x 46 cm (engraving), 47,7 x 57,5 cm (paper).
