賣家描述
antique Dutch Silver Bottle Stopper – Napoleon Bonaparte with Cannon ( attr. ) – G. Greup, Schoonhoven – 835 Silver
An exquisite and highly decorative Dutch silver bottle stopper, featuring a finely sculpted miniature of we think Napoleon Bonaparte standing beside a military cannon.
The miniature depicts his characteristic military uniform, wearing his famous bicorne hat, with his arms crossed over his chest. Beside him stands a detailed artillery cannon with spoked wheels, creating a charming historical composition.
The silver miniature is mounted on a circular base with an elegant reeded border, attached to a traditional natural cork stopper.
Silversmith and Hallmarks
The silver mount bears Dutch silver hallmarks:
The Dutch sword hallmark, indicating 835/1000 silver purity.
Maker's mark GG in a rectangular cartouche, attributed to G. Greup, Schoonhoven, Netherlands.
Schoonhoven has been one of the most important centers of Dutch silver craftsmanship for centuries, particularly renowned for its finely executed small silver objects and decorative miniatures.
Historical Inspiration
Napoleon Bonaparte (1769–1821), Emperor of the French, remains one of the most recognisable figures in European history.
The miniature recalls the Napoleonic era, with its distinctive military uniforms and artillery. The cannon is a particularly appropriate symbol, as Napoleon began his military career as an artillery officer.
Use and Decoration
Originally designed as a decorative bottle stopper for wine or spirits, this charming silver object is also a wonderful collector's piece.
It would make an elegant addition to a collection of Dutch silver miniatures, Napoleonic memorabilia, or antique wine accessories.
