MY GRADING FOR THIS SPECIMEN: 5/5 ***** — rarity, both internal and external molds of a rarely found cluster of these tiny trilobites, exceptional anatomical preservation of several individuals, tridimensionaly. Ontogeny (several ages of the species - from juveniles to adults - are present)
Taxonomy:
Species: Agerina quadrata (Dean, 1965)
Family: Leiostegidae
Order: Corynexochida
Class: Trilobita.
The Fezouata Shale it's a very fossiliferous area that changed the taxonomy and knowledge in general of several groups (trilobites, other Arthropods, soft-bodied creatures, Echinoderms) and helped to better understand the evolution of life.
It has been compared to the very well know Burgess Shale, at North America. In fact, it is, in late years, a prolific area in fossil discoveries that changed the fossil taxonomy of several groups of organisms and that helped to better understand the evolution of all the life on Earth. Not only several trilobite species have been newly documented there: some other Arthropods (like the famous Anomalocarids), soft-bodied creatures (like Furca sp. and others) and Echinoderms are other important groups found and studied there, among thousands of species.
Authenticity & Preparation
100% natural – no painting, no shadowing, no composite additions.
No restoration — the plate has 0% restoration; as found
Perfect for serious collectors and museums seeking a scientifically significant, display-ready Ordovician fossil assemblage from the world know Fezouata Lagerstätten and deserves a place in any institutional or private collection.
