【Product details】

This Edo period spearhead features a blade signed by the renowned swordsmith Nobukuni, enclosed in a plain wooden storage shaft (shirasaya). The exterior of the shirasaya is inscribed in ink with the characters “笹乃露 信國” (Sasa no Tsuyu – Nobukuni).

Nobukuni was an esteemed lineage of swordsmiths active from the Nanbokuchō to the Muromachi period, originally based in Yamashiro Province (present-day southern Kyoto Prefecture). Descended from Ryōkai Hisanobu, the Nobukuni school later expanded into regions such as Mino and Echizen. They are particularly known for their proficiency in crafting yari and wakizashi, often featuring Sanskrit carvings for spiritual protection and auspicious fortune. The tang bears the signature 信國 (Nobukuni), while the centre of the blade features two meticulously carved Sanskrit characters.

According to the Firearms and Swords Registration Certificate, the spear is classified as a yari, measuring 14.6 cm in length with no curvature, and has four peg holes. The certificate was issued in Nagano Prefecture on 13 March 2025 (Reiwa 7), under registration number 93655. The sword comes with a copy of its Firearms and Swords Registration Certificate, as the original document will be returned to the authorities.

There is slight rust on the blade and light rust on the tang. The handle and scabbard have minor blemishes, and the scabbard shows fine cracks. Please refer to the photos for further details.

Overall length (with scabbard): approx. 54 cm
Overall length (without scabbard): approx. 49 cm
Blade / spearhead length: approx. 24.5 cm
