This scroll is a celebration of the artistic expression found in traditional Japanese erotica, known as shunga. The first two images on this scroll are carefully hand-painted on silk, faithfully replicating the erotic scenes from Katsushika Hokusai's renowned “Shunga Album” woodblock prints. Hokusai was a renowned ukiyo-e artist whose work has had a lasting impact on Japanese art. The subsequent images are painted on paper and mounted on a silk backing that forms the base of the scroll. The finials of the scroll are made from a durable resin, which adds a modern touch to the traditional artwork. Please note that this piece has signs of wear such as fading, spots, tears, paper peeling, and wrinkles. Interested bidders should refer to the photos provided to assess the condition of the scroll.
