The set comprises a brass figure of Kukai, also known as Kobo Daishi, housed in a metal alter cabinet, a triad of deities including Fudo Myoo with his acolytes Seitaka and Kongara, a copper depiction of the seated Amida Buddha from Kamakura's Great Buddha, and a standalone standing statue of Kukai. Kukai, the founder of the Shingon sect of Japanese Buddhism, is celebrated for his significant contributions to religious practice and culture. Fudo Myoo, known for his immovable determination to destroy evil, is accompanied by Seitaka and Kongara, who symbolize the conversion of passion into wisdom. The Amida Buddha, central to Pure Land Buddhism, represents boundless light and life, embodying compassion and mercy. The copper Amida Buddha statue bears an inscription on its base, signifying its representation of the Great Buddha at Kamakura, an iconic symbol of serene spiritual strength. The brass Kukai seated within the cabinet carries an engraving on the back, indicating its association with Kongobu-ji, the head temple of Koyasan Shingon Buddhism. Koyasan is a sacred mountain site established by Kukai himself in the early Heian period, revered as a pinnacle of Japanese Buddhist heritage. These artifacts display natural signs of age such as surface wear, small scratches, dirt, verdigris patina, dust, and some loss of paint. Fudo Myoo's halo and sword are missing.
