Zwei Skulpturen von Shakyamuni 釈迦如来坐像 mit Gyokugan 玉眼 - Holz - Japan - Edo-Zeit (1600-1868)

DESCRIPTION Item Description: This exquisite wooden sculpture represents Shakyamuni, the historical Buddha, in a serene meditative posture. The figure is adorned with gold leaf, highlighting its divine nature and the intricate craftsmanship of the Edo period. The inclusion of gyokugan (crystal inlaid eyes) brings a lifelike presence to the statue, enhancing its spiritual aura. This Buddha is depicted in traditional attire, with detailed carvings on the robe signifying its sacred status. A piece like this would have likely served as a devotional object in a temple or a private altar, and today, it stands as a remarkable example of religious artistry and Japanese heritage. Size: Width 27 cm x Height 56 cm x Depth 23 cm Artist Profile: The artist of this piece remains anonymous, but their skill is indicative of the rich traditions of Japanese woodcarving and Buddhist artistry during the Edo period. Carvers of such statues were often part of a lineage of craftsmen who passed down their techniques and spiritual understanding through generations, contributing to the continuity and preservation of Japanese cultural and religious art. There are some minor chips, peeling, and missing parts in various places, which is consistent with its age. Piece in pedestal possibly replaced. Please refer to the attached photos for more details. While we will take the utmost care in packaging, please understand that there is a possibility of further deterioration during transit. This is a historically and spiritually significant artwork, making it a perfect addition for collectors of Buddhist antiquities. NOTICE The lot will be carefully packaged and sent by Japan post, DHL or FedEx depend on the situation. It takes about 3 weeks to receive normally. Import duties, taxes, and charges are not included in the item price or shipping cost. These charges are the buyer's responsibility.
