【Product details】
An exquisite early 20th-century viewing stone, known as Kikkaseki or Chrysanthemum Stone, offered with its original wooden box. This natural art piece hails from the renowned Neo Valley in Gifu Prefecture, celebrated for producing the finest examples of these stones. It boasts a singular pattern resembling a chrysanthemum flower, a motif that has elevated the Chrysanthemum Stone to the pinnacle of appreciation in the world of suiseki (viewing stones).
Not only is it a treasure of aesthetic significance, but it also holds geological importance. The area of production at 48-9 & 10 Neo Matsuda Aza Hatsushikadani, Motosu City, Gifu Prefecture (around the Neo Valley fault), has been designated as a Natural Monument of Japan in 1941 and as a Special Natural Monument in 1952. Due to strict regulations, the extraction of such stones from this locality has been prohibited since then, which makes this particular specimen, retrieved before the prohibition, exceedingly rare and valuable.
The stone is in good condition, with its integrity and the chrysanthemum pattern well-preserved. Please review the photos for a detailed assessment of the item's quality and state. This piece represents not only a segment of Japan's rich natural history but also an opportunity to own a rare and culturally significant artifact.
