Set against a luminous gold ground, this four‑panel byōbu signed “Suiho” presents morning glories climbing in elegant arcs across a bamboo fence, their blossoms unfolding in vivid tones that animate the entire surface. The interplay of metallic sheen and saturated color gives the flowers a striking presence, while the rhythmic arrangement of vines and leaves creates a sense of gentle movement across the panels. Suiho’s brushwork balances decorative refinement with natural vitality, allowing each bloom to feel fresh and distinct without overwhelming the harmony of the whole. The accompanying seal “Sui” affirms the authorship. A beautifully crafted screen that captures the seasonal charm and graceful ornamentation characteristic of Japanese floral painting on gold leaf.
