This lot consists of a set of two Japanese tea bowls created by Japanese ceramic artists.
Both pieces are hand-formed, resulting in naturally uneven shapes rather than perfect symmetry. These subtle distortions and gentle irregularities reflect the Japanese aesthetic of wabi-sabi, emphasizing imperfection, naturalness, and quiet beauty.

The set combines two works with contrasting materials and glaze finishes, allowing the viewer to appreciate their differences as well as their harmony when presented together.

① Unglazed Tea Bowl (Suyaki)

Artist: Kenkichi Yamada (Tenjin Kiln)

This tea bowl is unglazed, highlighting the raw texture of the clay itself.
Color variations, surface roughness, and visible trimming marks created during firing give the piece a rustic and powerful presence.

The form intentionally avoids strict symmetry, incorporating gentle distortions that convey warmth and the character of hand craftsmanship.
An impressed seal (artist’s mark) can be found on the foot of the bowl.

② Green-Glazed Matcha Bowl

Artist: Nobuaki Kato

The balance between the refined overall shape and the remaining irregularities makes this piece well suited for the tea ceremony.
