Ο ροή ρυτιδού φιδιού περιτυλίγει ν gently around the body, harmonizing beautifully with the luminous glaze. The contrast between the vivid turquoise background and the fresh green floral pattern gives the piece a serene yet sophisticated presence.
Kutani ware (Kutani-yaki) is renowned for its vibrant colors and artistic expression, and this piece demonstrates a refined aesthetic likely dating in the late Showa period (昭和後期, c. 1970s–1980s). The glossy glaze and decorative style reflect the evolution of Kutani ware into more contemporary interior art during this time.
The base bears a red square seal reading “Kutani Shūzan” (九谷秀山), identifying the work as a product of the Shūzan kiln. The neatly finished foot rim and well-balanced proportions reflect careful craftsmanship.
This vase is ideal as a single-stem flower display, but it also stands beautifully as a sculptural decorative object. Its tall proportions and vibrant glaze make it a striking accent piece for modern or traditional interiors.
Artist / Kiln Information
Shūzan (秀山) is a Kutani ware kiln name active during the Showa to Heisei periods. Kutani ware originates from Ishikawa Prefecture and dates back to the early Edo period (江戸時代前期, 17th century). Known for its vibrant enamel decoration and painterly surfaces, Kutani ceramics have developed through various stylistic schools over the centuries.
The seal “九谷秀山” confirms production by the Shūzan kiln. Works from this kiln are known for elegant glazing techniques and refined decorative balance. Based on style and glaze characteristics, this piece is estimated to have been produced during the late Showa period (昭和後期, 1926–1989 / likely 1970s–1980s).
