RARΕ and VERY LARGE map of CYPRUS dated 1754 and considered the most important of the 18th century. 48.5 x 75 x 48.5 cm net - whole sheet: 77 X 53cm
The map was created by Alexander Drummond, a Scottish diplomat (British consul at Aleppo 1751-1758), surveyor and Freemason, and published as part of his extensive travel book: "Travels through different cities of Germany, Italy, Greece and several parts of Asia", published 1754 in London.
The cartouche bears the dedication to George Wakeman Esq., the British Consul in Cyprus, when Drummond visited the island and had enjoyed his hospitality in Larnaca.
Etched by Johann Sebastian Müller (engraved as J.S.M. as the right bottom corner).
Multi-folded. With full untrimmed margins. One tiny split at left margins, one small worm trail of 1,5cm x 1mm within the map and another one of 3mm x 1mm hardly visible.
Some off-set (shadow ) of the map on some parts. Please inspect the photos.
On the whole in very good condition with crisp paper.
This is one of the most influential early modern maps of the island. Very rarely on the market!
(The map will be shipped with one center fold only)
(shipping via registered airmail. To Italy we ship with EMS courier)
