Circa 1880 ( Old Type) 9ct Rose Gold on Silver Masonic ORB/one clamp missing
This 9-gram 9-carat rose gold on silver Masonic orb, dating back to around 1880, is one of the few pieces in my family collection. It features a very old design that requires unclipping the cross itself, unlike modern push-out types. One closing clamp is missing.
This intricately handmade Masonic orb, also known as a globe and cross fob or Masonic ball, can be worn as a pocket watch fob, charm on a bracelet or pendant, either closed (ball) or open in the shape of a cross. When open, it reveals six pyramids, each decorated with hand-engraved Masonic symbols on its four faces.
Each pyramid is secured to its neighbour by secure hinges and when folded back into a ball, it’s held together by four arms. The holder itself features a jump ring, making it easy to wear as a fob on a watch chain, pendant or charm on a bracelet.
The orb weighs approximately 9 grams and has a length of about 40mm when opened. It was made in England.
