Antique French Officer’s Miniature Medal Bar – Set of 6 Including Legion of Honour
Description
This is an exceptional, original antique French military medal bar featuring six miniature decorations. These miniatures were specifically commissioned by officers for wear on formal "mess dress" or evening attire.
Identified Decorations (from left to right):
Ordre des Palmes Académiques (Officer Grade): A silver-toned wreath of palm and olive branches on a violet ribbon featuring a rosette, denoting the rank of Officier.
French Commemorative Medal: A silver-toned medal featuring a profile of the Republic, suspended from a tricolor ribbon.
Médaille d'honneur du Travail (Honor Medal of Labor): Suspended from a French tricolor ribbon (blue, white, and red) with a small wreath attachment on the ribbon signifying a silver or higher grade.
Légion d'Honneur (Legion of Honour): France’s highest order of merit. A white enameled star on a green wreath with a central gold medallion inscribed "HONNEUR ET PATRIE".
Médaille Coloniale (Colonial Medal): Recognized by the distinctive yellow ribbon with light blue and red stripes, awarded for service in French overseas territories.
Médaille Commémorative de la Guerre 1870–1871: A commemorative medal for veterans of the Franco-Prussian War, identified by the black ribbon with white vertical stripes.
