久谷Kutani Tsurukubi Vase by 松本佐一Matsumoto Saichi (1930– ) – 1981 Silver-Glaze Masterpiece with Tomobako
Matsumoto Saichi 松本佐一 (1930– )
Kutani ware “Tsurukubi” long-neck vase, dated 1981 (Showa 56), complete with original wooden tomobako and biography leaflet.
This refined Kutani porcelain vase was created in 1981 by the distinguished Kutani artist Matsumoto Saichi. The elegant “Tsurukubi” (crane-neck) form, characterized by its elongated and gracefully rising neck, evokes the poised silhouette of a crane and highlights floral arrangements with exceptional balance.
The body features a textured, softly speckled surface, contrasted by a diamond-shaped panel decorated with silver-glaze technique (ginsai) and stylized floral motifs set against a warm golden ground. The composition reflects Matsumoto’s ability to harmonize traditional Kutani aesthetics with a modern, minimalist sensibility. The restrained yet luminous decoration gives the piece a sophisticated presence suitable for both Japanese and contemporary European interiors.
This work comes directly from storage (Kuradashi) and is accompanied by the original signed wooden box and printed biography, enhancing its authenticity and collectability.
