Kiss of peace reliquary of Saint Roch – reliquary in fabric – 18th/19th century
Reliquary of the kiss-of-peace type (pacifical-reliquary), made of silvered metal, circular shape, glazed on the face, containing an authentic identifiable reliquary of Saint Roch.
The reliquary is accompanied by its period manuscript cartouche bearing the inscription:
“S. Rochi in P.P.”, for Sancti Rochi in Panno, indicating a relic of cloth that had been in contact with the saint.
The interior decoration consists of a gilded guilloché background, adorned with white paper florets and a radiating motif centered on the reliquary, following a decorative typology characteristic of the late 18th century and the early 19th century.
On the reverse, the reliquary is sealed by an old ecclesiastical red wax seal, guaranteeing the integrity and authenticity of the assembly.
Saint Roch is a major thaumaturge saint, invoked against epidemics and the plague, whose cult is widespread in Europe from the 15th century.
Condition: good overall, normal wear of time, intact old wax seal
