George Bernard Shaw, Two Plays for Puritans, The Easton Press, 1979
Collector’s edition bound in genuine leather, published by The Easton Press, Norwalk, Connecticut, 1979, as part of The 100 Greatest Books Ever Written series.
This volume presents two of George Bernard Shaw’s best-known historical plays: The Devil’s Disciple and Caesar and Cleopatra. Shaw wrote these works at the end of the nineteenth century, combining sharp wit with historical and political commentary. The Devil’s Disciple is set during the American Revolutionary War and explores themes of heroism, identity, and moral courage, while Caesar and Cleopatra presents Shaw’s distinctive interpretation of the relationship between the Roman general and the young Egyptian queen.
The edition includes a publisher’s preface and reproduces the complete texts of both plays. The book also contains notes to each play. Illustrations and drawings by George Him appear throughout the volume, accompanying the dramatic scenes and characters.
Bound in full red genuine leather with elaborate gilt ornamental designs on the boards and spine, with raised bands and gilt titling. All page edges are gilt. The volume features decorative endpapers and a bound-in satin ribbon marker, typical of Easton Press collector’s editions.
The book is in very good condition. The leather binding remains clean and well preserved, with minor signs of handling visible. The gilt decoration and page edges remain bright. The interior pages are clean and free from inscriptions or annotations. The binding is firm and sound. No slipcase is present.
The book will be carefully packed and securely shipped to ensure safe delivery. Shipping is available worldwide, with tracking provided where applicable.
