This coin, issued during the Warring States Period (475–221 BC) by the State of Chu, represents an early form of Chinese bronze currency known as Yibi (ant-nose money). These small bronze pieces are among the earliest metallic currencies used in China and reflect the diverse monetary systems that existed before the unification of the Chinese empire. Coins such as this illustrate the transition from commodity exchange to standardized coinage, an important step in the global development of money.
