虚無 (Kyomu) - Japanese for void - is a large, atmospheric painting that explores emptiness as something quiet and alive rather than simply blank. Deep carbon black anchors the top and bottom of the canvas, enclosing a pale, graphite-grey band that opens through the centre like a strip of distant light. The work hovers between horizon, night sea and pure abstraction, never resolving into a fixed image.

The surface is built from many diluted layers of carbon black and graphite grey, rubbed and washed into the weave of the canvas. Faint streaks, soft transitions and small irregular traces remain visible, recording the movement of the hand and the slow accumulation of pigment. These unpolished details reflect a wabi-sabi sensibility: beauty in imperfection, in erosion and in the quiet residue of time.

Seen from afar, 虚無 reads as a restrained, almost monochrome composition, viewed up close, it reveals subtle shifts between matte black and the slight sheen of graphite, inviting slow, contemplative looking.
