■ Description

This piece is a Japanese chawan (tea bowl) created by the Japanese ceramic artist Mikio Osako.

The bowl features a powerful clay texture and natural kiln effects produced during firing.
Its surface shows rich variations ranging from reddish-brown to deep dark brown, creating a dynamic and expressive appearance.

Small natural marks such as stone bursts and variations in the glaze developed during firing add depth and character to the piece, reflecting the rustic beauty typical of Japanese studio pottery.

Inside the bowl, subtle glaze flows and kiln effects can be seen, creating a beautiful contrast with the green color of matcha when used in a tea ceremony.

The foot of the bowl also retains traces of the firing process and natural clay texture, highlighting the strength and individuality of hand-crafted ceramics.

The piece comes with its original wooden box (tomobako) and an artist biography leaflet, confirming its origin as a work by the artist.

According to the leaflet, Mikio Osako was a ceramic artist based in Tokoname, Aichi Prefecture, and participated in exhibitions such as the Japan Ceramic Art Exhibition.
He is introduced as one of the contemporary Japanese ceramic artists active in modern studio pottery.

This bowl can be used as a tea utensil for the Japanese tea ceremony, while also serving as an attractive object for display, reflecting the aesthetic of wabi-sabi in Japanese ceramics.
