DESCRIPTION:

Denversaurus είναι ένας νodosaurid οπλισμένος δεινοσαύρος από το Late Cretaceous, συνήθως εντοπίζεται ως οστά (osteoderms, scutes) στη φωσφορική πλούσια Formation Lance Creek (Ουάϊομινγκ) και στη Formation Hell Creek (Μοντάνα/Ντακότας), γνωστός για τη φαρδιά οδόρρευφα, τον οστέινο θώρακα και τους ώμους με αιχμές, στενά συνδεδεμένος με τον Edmontonia, αν και συχνά δύσκολο να διακριθεί από τα απομεινάρια Ankylosaurus που βρίσκονται στις ίδιες Formation.

Type: Ένας νodosaurid ankylosaur, μέλος της οικογένειας των οπλισμένων δεινοσαύρων.
Features: Είχε φαρδύ κρανίο, οστέινο θώρακα (osteoderms) και εμφανείς αιχμές στους ώμους, αλλά δεν διέθετε την ουραία ράβδο του Ankylosaurus.
Size: Εκτιμάται ότι μήκους γύρω στα 20 πόδια (6 μέτρα).
Name: Σημαίνει «λεπιδόδρομος του Νέβερ-Δένορ» (Denver lizard), ονομάστηκε προς τιμήν του Denver Museum of Nature & Science όπου φυλάσσεται το πρωτότυπο γναθοπάθη (holotype).
Species: Η τυπολογική είδος είναι Denversaurus schlessmani.

Fossils in the Lance Creek Formation
Location: Η Formation Lance Creek στην Ουάϊομινγκ, μαζί με τη Hell Creek Formation, αποτελεί κύρια πηγή απολιθωμάτων Denversaurus.
Fossil Type: Συνήθως εντοπίζονται ως απομονωμένες πλάκες οστέϊνου θώρακα (osteoderms) ή scutes, συχνά σε ανάμειξη με απολιθώματα Ankylosaurus.
Discovery: Τα απολιθώματα βρέθηκαν πρώτα από τον Philip Reinheimer στη Νότια Ντάκοτα και αργότερα μελετήθηκαν από τον Bob Bakker, ο οποίος ίδρυσε το γένος το 1988.
Significance
