【Product details】
This is a pair of Japanese tsuba (sword guards), casted in the style of Nanban tsuba.
Both guards feature an openwork (sukashi) design, allowing for a visually light and balanced composition while maintaining structural integrity. One of the tsuba retains areas of gold plating applied to the inner contours of the design, creating a subtle contrast against the dark iron surface.
One tsuba shows a small chip, along with scuffs and relatively heavier rust overall consistent with age. The surfaces display natural age-related patina developed over time.
The pair comes with a wooden storage box. The lid shows areas of staining. Inside the box, the fabric covering the central support protrusion exhibits fraying and peeling. Please refer to the photos for details.
