Douchu Kabin 銅蟲花瓶 (どうちゅうかびん) | Kyuhodo Shuho 久芳堂秀芳 (きゅうほうどうしゅうほう)
Description:
This vase is made using the Douchu technique. The name originates from Denbei Sasaki, a copper smith who served the Asano clan, the lords of Hiroshima Prefecture, in the early Edo period. He was called "Douchu" (copper bug) due to his dedication to his work. The piece is formed by hammering a copper plate with a mallet, applying a "tsuchime" (hammered) pattern to the surface, and finishing it through a process of straw-smoking and polishing. Two carp are depicted in gold and silver colors.

The Douchu technique is a traditional craft. The artist currently produces various works as a craftsman for Ito Kyuhodo.
