Ouchebti ptolémaïque en faïence bleu turquoise.

Égypte, Période ptolémaïque, 4ème – 1ᵉʳ siècle avant J.-C.

Hauteur : 15,5 cm – Largeur : 4,3 cm.

Superbe ouchebti en faïence bleu turquoise, représentant le défunt momiforme coiffé de la perruque tripartite striée et muni de la longue barbe postiche tressée. Le visage, particulièrement expressif et souriant, est typique des productions ptolémaïques tardives : pommettes pleines, yeux légèrement en amande, bouche animée d’un discret sourire. Les traits sont rendus avec finesse, témoignant d’un atelier soigné.
Le personnage tient les houes agricoles croisées sur la poitrine et porte, dans le dos, la sangle du sac de semences bien visible en relief, conformément à la fonction de l’ouchebti comme substitut du défunt aux travaux des champs dans l’Au-delà.
Le corps est recouvert de hiéroglyphes en colonnes verticales, gravés dans la pâte avant cuisson, probablement une version du Chapitre 6 du Livre des Morts, invoquant l’activation de l’ouchebti au service du défunt. La faïence présente une belle glaçure turquoise homogène, avec petites usures superficielles dues au temps.

À noter : un collage visible au niveau du cou, stable et proprement restauré. Aucun autre manque ni restauration significative. État général très beau, avec une présence esthétique remarquable.
Le socle est fourni avec l'objet.

Provenance :
Collection privée belge constituée au début des années 1980 par Monsieur P. puis transmise par descendance à sa fille.

Description
A superb turquoise blue faience ushabti representing the deceased in mummiform, wearing a striated tripartite wig and a long, braided false beard. The face is particularly expressive and smiling, typical of late Ptolemaic craftsmanship: full cheekbones, slightly almond-shaped eyes, and a mouth animated by a subtle smile. The features are finely rendered, testifying to the work of a high-quality workshop.

The figure holds crossed hoes across the chest and wears a seed bag strap visible in relief on the back, consistent with the ushabti's role as a substitute for the deceased for agricultural labor in the Afterlife.

The body is covered with vertical columns of hieroglyphs incised into the paste before firing. This is likely a version of Chapter 6 of the Book of the Dead, invoking the activation of the ushabti to serve the deceased. The faience features a beautiful, homogeneous turquoise glaze with minor surface wear due to age.

Note: There is a visible repair at the neck level, which is stable and cleanly restored. No other significant losses or restorations. Excellent overall condition with a remarkable aesthetic presence.

The display stand is included with the object.

Provenance
Private Belgian collection established in the early 1980s by Mr. P., then passed by descent to his daughter.
