Περιγραφή από τον πωλητή

Ένα ισχυρό και εκφραστικό ιαπωνικό chawan (a teaware bowl), presented with its original wooden storage box (tomobako), embodying the deep aesthetic of wabi-sabi and traditional tea culture.

The bowl features a robust and slightly irregular form, with gently rising walls and a subtly uneven rim. This natural asymmetry enhances its tactile presence, inviting direct handling and appreciation.

The surface is covered in a rich, deep black glaze, contrasted by areas of exposed clay and natural firing effects. Subtle variations in tone—from glossy black to earthy brown—create a dynamic interplay of texture and depth. These transitions appear organic and unforced, reflecting the unpredictable beauty of kiln firing.

Inside, the glaze pools naturally, forming a darker, almost mirror-like surface that contrasts with the more textured outer body. The interior shows fine speckling and kiln marks, adding further character and authenticity.

The foot (kodai) is well-defined and left partially unglazed, revealing the raw clay body and bearing a stamped mark. The base retains traces of firing, emphasizing its handmade origin.

The accompanying tomobako (wooden box) features handwritten inscriptions and a seal, indicating careful preservation and traditional presentation.

This piece is well-suited for tea ceremony use or as a standalone display object, offering both visual strength and a quiet, contemplative presence.

Included:

Chawan (tea bowl)
Original wooden box (tomobako)

Condition:
Very good condition. No visible cracks or restorations.
Minor kiln marks, glaze variations, and natural irregularities are inherent to the firing process and part of the aesthetic.

Dimensions (approx.):
Diameter: approx. 12-13 cm
Height: approx. 8–9 cm

A compelling example of Japanese ceramic artistry, combining strength, texture, and the refined imperfection central to wabi-sabi aesthetics.
