Antique Dutch Silver Bread Basket / Center piece
Kempen & Zonen – Voorschoten – 1911
Elegant Dutch silver bread basket, also suitable as a refined table center piece, crafted in second standard silver (835/1000). The piece is assayed with the walking lion, the date letter A in a circle (1911), and the maker’s mark of Kempen & Zonen, one of the most important Dutch silver manufacturers of the late 19th and early 20th century.
This basket features a beautifully pierced openwork decoration, combining elongated vertical bars with a repeating stylised motif band beneath the rim. The upper edge is finished with a refined beaded (pearl) border, a classic detail associated with high-quality Dutch silver work of the period.
The oval form and airy construction give the piece an elegant yet practical presence, allowing it to be used both functionally and decoratively.
Originally intended as a bread or roll basket for the dining table, it also works perfectly as a fruit basket, serving basket, or decorative center piece in both classic and contemporary interiors.
Kempen & Zonen, based in Voorschoten, was a leading Dutch silver firm known for its excellent craftsmanship, consistent quality, and refined designs. Their work is widely collected and well documented in Dutch silver history.
