Dial and Hands
The dial is a masterclass in mid-century restraint, featuring a brilliant silver sunburst finish that remains exceptionally clean and well-preserved. It is adorned with applied gold-tone faceted baton indices, featuring a prominent double marker at the twelve o'clock position. The elegant cursive "Seiko Crown" typography and "Diashock 21 Jewels" text are printed in crisp black, showing no signs of fading or print loss. A finely printed minute track encircles the outer edge, anchoring the design. The matching gold-tone dauphine hands are sharp and free of oxidation, perfectly complementing the indices. Under close inspection, the dial exhibits virtually no spotting, moisture damage, or significant patina, presenting a remarkably fresh and visually arresting aesthetic that is rare for a watch of this era.
Case and Crystal
The 35mm stainless steel case features a classic round profile with elegantly tapered lugs that retain sharp, well-defined edges. The polished surfaces show only light, honest handling marks consistent with careful wear over the decades, with no deep scratches or signs of heavy over-polishing. The snap-on caseback is clearly engraved with the reference 15002, the serial number 0014007, and period-correct Japanese factory markings. The inside of the caseback features an attractive engine-turned perlage finish. The watch is fitted with a domed acrylic crystal that offers excellent clarity and warmth, free from significant scuffs or crazing, allowing an unobstructed view of the pristine dial.
Movement
Powering this timepiece is the beautifully engineered manual-wind Seikosha Caliber 560, clearly stamped with "21 JEWELS" and the "FS" regulation scale. The movement presents in exceptionally clean condition, with bright plates, polished screw heads, and vibrant jewels. Performing well within expected vintage tolerances; running strong and steady. The timegrapher results indicate +22s to +26s/day.
Strap
The watch is paired with a handsome black leather strap featuring a crocodile-embossed pattern and striking contrasting yellow and gold stitching. The strap complements the gold-tone accents of the dial beautifully and is secured with a standard steel pin buckle.
Condition
Excellent vintage condition. The dial and hands are stunningly preserved, showing almost no signs of age. The stainless steel case remains sharp and structurally sound with only superficial wear. The movement is visually clean and operational.

Remarks
The Seiko Crown is historically significant as the immediate predecessor to the legendary Grand Seiko line. Finding one with such a flawlessly preserved dial and sharply defined case is a rare opportunity for collectors of vintage Japanese horology to acquire a foundational piece of Seiko's history.
History
Introduced in 1959, the Seiko Crown was designed to be the brand's premier dress watch, succeeding the highly successful Seiko Marvel. It featured a larger, more precise movement and a refined aesthetic that set a new standard for Japanese watchmaking. The Crown's architecture and design philosophy were so successful that they directly inspired the creation of the first Grand Seiko in 1960. Today, the Seiko Crown is revered by collectors not only for its historical importance in elevating the brand's status but also for its enduring elegance and mechanical reliability.
