Beautiful tiles from the 1980s KLM issued on Business Class flights only on Intercontinental flights, so difficult to obtain. These tiles came before KLM houses and were intended as collectors' objects and from a promotional point of view for Dutch Delft Art. They were very popular objects for tourists. The back of each tile has a velvet fabric containing the K.L.M. logo and name printed in relief.
KLM are pleased to offer you this tile which was made exclusively for our Business Class passengers.
There are four series, showing reproductions of authentic Dutch windmills, crafts, children's games and ships. each consisting of nine different designs.
The tiles are fashioned in "Polychrome", a rare and difficult technique developed and perfected in Delft during the middle of the 17th century.
At that time, tiles were very much in vogue. They decorated the walls of Dutch interiors, with the costly Polychromes taking pride of place.
By the light of an open fire, their warm colors acquired an intimate glow.
The Dutch loved tiles showing images of the world around them.
Today, these tiles give us a fascinating insight into the lives of those people.
Delft Polychrome
The history of world famous Delft pottery started four centuries ago during Holland's Golden Age, when inhabitants of the low Countries were discovering new continents.
Inspired by contacts with the Far East and the countries around the Mediterranean, Dutch potters also set out in new directions.
Delft Polychrome derives its high quality from the efforts of experts, who have passed on their know-how from father to son since 1749.
Each piece by the present generation is a contribution to the living history of Delft Polychrome.
The photos are the part of the description.
Item will be packaged very carefully and shipped by registered mail.
