Four Tlatilco Terracotta Anthropomorphic and Zoomorphic Heads, Central Mexico, 12th to 6th Century BC.

A charming group of four small hand-modelled terracotta heads in typical Tlatilco Preclassic style. The set includes three anthropomorphic faces with varied expressions, hairstyles and headdresses, and one zoomorphic head possibly representing a canine or reptilian creature. All display characteristic slit eyes, prominent noses, and incised decorative details with remains of slip and natural encrustation.
These miniature heads were commonly used as pendants, amulets or components of larger figurines in ritual and funerary contexts.
