Full Metal Jacket (1987) Shooting Script (Copy)

Complete shooting script including 175 pages
Dated December 19, 1985, with final revisions dated January 29, 1986
Directed and Produced by Stanley Kubrick

It is common to find scripts from this movie with the F.T.G. (“For The Garbage”) stamp. These are obsolete revisions that the director ordered to be discarded, making them some ofthe least significant fragments of the production history; they hold little professional value as they represent drafts explicitly marked for disposal.

In contrast, a Shooting Script is exceptionally rare, as those were strictly reserved for the technical crew and senior production staff.

This document is exceptionally rare and historically significant because it is not a preliminary draft or disposable revision, but a genuine Shooting Script prepared for active production use during the filming of Full Metal Jacket. Unlike early screenplay drafts that merely reflect evolving ideas, this 175-page document represents the operational blueprint used by the production team during the final stages of preparation and shooting. It preserves the structure, scene order, technical annotations and dialogue exactly as they were intended during principal photography under Stanley Kubrick’s meticulous supervision.

Full Metal Jacket is a 1987 war drama film directed and produced by Stanley Kubrick and co-written with Michael Herr and Gustav Hasford. Based on Hasford’s novel The Short-Timers, the film stars Matthew Modine, R. Lee Ermey, and Vincent D'Onofrio. Renowned for its uncompromising depiction of Marine Corps training and the Vietnam War, the film is celebrated for its clinical realism, unforgettable performances, and exploration of the psychological duality of violence, becoming one of the most studied and influential war films in cinema history.

Did you know?

Our scripts come directly from the USA. They are easy to recognize because they have the standard U.S. paper size. Typically, people use A4-sized paper (297mm in height) to make fan copies of scripts. This paper size is not used in the United States; they use letter-sized paper (279mm in height). This is noticeable because this scripts usually have black lines at the top and bottom, showing that the original paper size used to copy (any American script) is smaller than A4.

Also, our scripts have been preserved under the strictest climate control standards in HVAC-R conditions, both during storage and throughout the packaging process. As a result, a label is applied after sealing them, as shown in the photos. They are bound in the same way that vault copies of scripts are preserved, without any oxidizable materials that could damage the paper. They are carefully packed in bubble wrap and placed in a cardboard box to ensure they arrive in the best possible condition.
