Copper Wall Sconce with Fringed Shade, in the Manner of Hendrik Methorst / Conrad Fehn

A charming wall sconce in hammered copper, with a sharply geometric triangular form and a fringed lower edge. Amsterdam School / Dutch Art Deco: architectural, hand-worked, slightly romantic, and just a little strange in the best possible way.

The copper shade is built as a pointed, almost roof-like form, with folded triangular planes and a raised rib running down the centre. The edges are decorated with a crimped copper border, giving the piece a finely worked, artisanal character. The surface has a dark, warm patina with visible age, catching the light in a subtle way when lit.

The design is in the manner of Dutch metalwork associated with Hendrik Methorst and Conrad Fehn, both known for expressive copper and brass lighting with strong geometric and handcrafted qualities. We do not have documentation to attribute this piece firmly, but stylistically it belongs very much to that world.

The fabric band and fringe were most probably added later, but they suit the lamp surprisingly well. They soften the strict copper geometry and give the sconce a slightly intimate, boudoir-like quality. Lit from within, the lamp creates a warm amber glow behind the fringe, making it especially atmospheric for a hallway, bedroom, or curated interior.

The wiring has been replaced at some point, but is still vintage. The lamp is in working order.

Style
Amsterdam School, Dutch Art Deco, Arts & Crafts, in the manner of Hendrik Methorst / Conrad Fehn.

Decorative wall light, atmospheric accent lamp, hallway light, bedroom sconce or collector’s lighting object.
