The Nikon D7000 is a well-loved enthusiast DSLR, announced in September 2010 as the successor to the popular D90. It raised the bar for Nikon's DX line, sitting close to the semi-professional D300S in capability. The body is built on a magnesium-alloy chassis with weather sealing, giving it a notably solid, serious feel.

It features a 16.2-megapixel DX-format (APS-C) CMOS sensor paired with the EXPEED 2 image processor, a 39-point autofocus system (with 9 cross-type sensors), a 2,016-pixel RGB 3D Matrix Metering sensor, 6 fps continuous shooting, and 1080p Full HD video. The native ISO range is 100-6400 (expandable to 25,600), and the shutter is rated to 150,000 actuations. It uses twin SD card slots (SD/SDHC/SDXC), a 3.0-inch 921k-dot LCD, and the EN-EL15 battery.

This particular body has a low shutter count of 13,428 actuations — well within its rated life.

Lens compatibility:
- Nikon F-mount, DX format. With DX lenses you get native coverage; FX / full-frame lenses can be used with the 1.5x DX crop.
- The D7000 has a built-in autofocus motor, so it autofocuses with AF and AF-D (screw-drive) lenses as well as AF-S lenses.
- It also meters with non-CPU manual lenses (Ai / Ai-S) once they are registered in the menu, making it a flexible body for vintage Nikkor glass.
