With embossed dry stamp (Rolf Meier). Based on the feel of the engraving, we still have serious doubts that it is not an etching.

Plate size: 19.5 x 16.5 cm.
Paper size: approx. 36 x 26 cm.

Frame with glass. 40.5 x 30.5 cm. With some defects (please see photographs).

In very good condition.

The famous portrait shows the celebrated philosopher and poet Friedrich Nietzsche (1844-1900), perhaps the last great philosopher in history, in his final years when he was suffering from mental illness. The photographs and sketches that Olde made are the most admired today.

The term "Rolf Meier, Winterthur Kupferdruck" refers to the prestigious copperplate printing workshop of the same name located in Winterthur, Switzerland. We know almost nothing about the date this edition was produced. Documentation exists at the Nietzsche-Haus in Sils Maria regarding the Rolf Meier printing house's connection to Nietzsche's artistic legacy, but we have been unable to obtain a date for this series.
