八代兼田佳炎 Kaneta Keien VIII (b1949) 萩焼 Hagi ware 'Well-type Beige Tea Bowl' with Original Box (Tomobako)
萩焼 Hagi ware (Hagi-yaki) is a type of Japanese pottery that traditionally originated from the town of Hagi, Yamaguchi, in the former Nagato Province.
The well‑type Hagi tea bowl by Kaneta Keien VIII carries the quiet warmth typical of Shōkeian’s tradition, the soft beige glaze with its pale pink and brown speckling settling gently over the clay in a way that reveals the kiln’s natural breathing; the slightly rounded lip, broad stance, and unrefined foot give the piece a grounded, rustic presence, while the seal “Keien” situates it within the long lineage of Hagi potters who value simplicity, touch, and the slow maturation of colour through use, all kept together with its tomobako.
Box dimensions: 6.4" x 6.4" x 5.1" / 16.4cm x 16.4cm x 13.2cm
