Περιγραφή από τον πωλητή
Northwest Africa 18647 (NWA 18647)
Algeria
Find: 2026
Classification: Ureilite
History: The meteorite was purchased from a dealer in Bordj Badji Mokhtar, Algeria.
Physical characteristics: Dark brownish rock with some fusion crust.
Petrography: Protogranular aggregate consisting predominantly of up to 4 mm sized olivine (about 85 vol%) and less abundant low-Ca pyroxene (about 10 vol%) grains often meeting in triple junctions. Olivines are highly reduced and partly consist of smaller subgrains with grain boundaries often being decorated by a network of abundant iron sulfide and rare kamacite making up about 4 vol% of the meteorite. Low-Ca pyroxene is present as discrete grains containing regions composed of Ca-pyroxene and interstitial Si-Al-rich mesostasis. Flaky graphite is present. Neither olivine nor pyroxene show reduced rims.
Geochemistry: olivine: Fa8.9±0.2 (Fa8.5-9.0, FeO/MnO=17±1; n=7), contains 0.59±0.04 wt% Cr2O3 and 0.16±0.01 wt% CaO; low-Ca pyroxene: Fs12.4±0.5Wo7.1±1.4 (Fs11.3-12.9Wo4.5-8.7, FeO/MnO=13±1, n=7), contains 1.14±0.01 wt% Cr2O3 and 0.37±0.16 wt% Al2O3; augite: Fs7.0±0.4Wo38.6±1.0 (Fs6.1-7.3Wo37.0-40.0, FeO/MnO=10±1, n=7), contains 1.48±0.05 wt% Cr2O3 and 1.51±0.07 wt% Al2O3.
Shock stage: low
Weathering grade: moderate.
Classifier: A. Greshake, MNB
