Brand: Seiko
Model: Lord Matic
Reference Number: 5606-7290
Serial Number: 3N3225
Movement: Automatic Caliber 5606A
Dial: Blue gradient sunburst dial, displaying visible age-related spotting and oxidation marks
Case Size: 37 mm (excluding the crown)
Case Material: Stainless Steel
Production Year: 1973
Condition: Good vintage condition, showing honest wear and distinct dial patina
Dial and Hands
The captivating blue sunburst dial features a striking gradient effect, transitioning from a vibrant azure center to deep navy edges. It is adorned with tall, highly faceted applied indices featuring distinctive textured inserts, with ribbed gold-toned accents anchoring the twelve, six, and nine o'clock positions. The applied Seiko and LM logos add excellent depth to the display. The dial exhibits clear signs of its vintage journey, with visible dark spotting, oxidation marks, and age-related patina concentrated around the upper indices and outer perimeter. The matching baton hands feature black central stripes and show corresponding honest aging and light oxidation, sweeping over the framed day-date aperture at three o'clock.
Case and Crystal
The thirty-seven millimeter stainless steel case features a classic nineteen-seventies tonneau silhouette with a gentle downward curve to the lugs. The case retains a clear distinction between its brushed upper surfaces and polished flanks, demonstrating honest vintage wear with scattered light scratches and handling marks consistent with regular use over the decades. The knurled crown sits neatly against the polished case side. The watch is fitted with a domed acrylic crystal that provides minor distortion at the edges and remains generally clear, exhibiting only faint surface wear visible under close inspection. The screw-down caseback clearly displays all factory engravings including the reference and serial numbers.
Movement
Inside the case beats the Seiko automatic caliber 5606A, a twenty-five jewel movement renowned for powering the Lord Matic family. The movement features a day and date complication and is signed clearly on the rotor. Visual inspection of the caliber reveals noticeable tarnishing and oxidation across the plates and winding weight, reflecting its age and historical use. Performing well within expected vintage tolerances; running strong and steady. 35 s/d.
Strap
The watch is paired with a period-correct black leather strap featuring contrasting white stitching. The strap is supple and complements the vibrant blue dial beautifully, fastened by a standard stainless steel pin buckle.
Condition
Graded in good vintage condition. The watch presents beautifully on the wrist while showing the authentic hallmarks of its fifty-year history. The case remains structurally sound with honest surface wear and no signs of heavy over-polishing. The dial displays distinct, visible spotting and oxidation, providing a deeply patinated vintage character. The movement shows cosmetic aging but operates steadily.
Dimensions
The stainless steel case measures 37 mm in diameter excluding the crown. The lug-to-lug distance and profile provide a comfortable, grounded fit suitable for a wide variety of wrist sizes.
Remarks
The Seiko Lord Matic reference 5606-7290 is a true testament to the brand's expressive design language during the early nineteen-seventies. The combination of the deep blue vignette dial and the highly architectural faceted indices creates a dynamic visual experience that shifts beautifully in the light. This piece offers a highly authentic vintage wearing experience for the dedicated Seiko enthusiast.
History
Introduced in the late nineteen-sixties, the Seiko Lord Matic series was positioned just below the King Seiko and Grand Seiko lines, serving as a premium offering for the everyday professional. Equipped with the sophisticated 5600 series calibers, the LM range brought high-beat capability, thin profiles, and adventurous case designs to a broader audience. These timepieces remain highly celebrated by modern collectors for their exceptional build quality and quintessential retro-futuristic aesthetic.
