This artwork "Fukei NO1" is created using the mezzotint technique, an intaglio process of copperplate printing. The artist pursues the moment when endless depth is born from a black flat surface, describing it as "a formative expression standing still in the light that shines into the darkness." The gradation from the deep jet black where the ink sits to the delicate white scraped out forms a quiet and illusionary landscape. Instead of depicting natural scenery itself, it reconstructs the shine of light or geometric structures within the screen.
